Star Wars Attack
Star Wars Actress asked to lose 35 pounds
So as we are all aware, the actress who has played “Princess Leia” for the past decade & just recently was also in the newest Star Wars movie has been attacked about her weight; not to mention her age. For those of you who may not know whom this icon is, she is Carrie Fisher. Carrie Fisher has been a legend since the very first Star Wars movie appeared in 1977; she played Princess leia and is known for her beauty and well spoken words on camera.
For many, this movie meant so much and stood for so much & brought out the inner kid. Unfortunately it seems as though some people didn’t like the idea of “Princess Leia” being older, and not so “thin” in their opinion. People forgot she is not the same person she was…
I was so saddened to hear about Carrie Fisher. This year has honestly just been horrible

Yes, many people have died toward the end of this year. It is very sad to hear she passed. I wasn’t a HUGE Starwars fan growing up, but I just enjoyed the kind of person she was on screen.

Yeah she was definitely an amazing actress and she was also an incredible person off screen too.

Have you seen the new movie Rogue One? I haven’t yet.

Yes I went to watch it on Christmas with my dad. It’s really incredible and even though it’s connected to Star Wars it has a story of it own. I would highly recommend it. Definitely one of my favorite movies this year

See, I thought long and hard about this, because what you do in this post is not honest. I don’t think you realize what you’re doing though. Carrie wasn’t “attacked”, she was asked to lose 35 pounds because she was overweight. Nobody, well nobody who is sane and intelligent, wanted the Princess Leia from A New Hope (the plastic surgery made that as impossible as “smiling” anyway). The problem was, she was heavy, overweight, and borderline obese and the producers asked her to fix that so she could be in the new movie…. and FINALLY make some decent money off an industry that turned its back on her because she was an addict and bat shit crazy. That isn’t “attacked”. It’s “asked to lose weight”.
You wrote: “Why do people have the right to judge someone because of how they look? Who gives us the right to decide how “fat” or “skinny” someone is? Every [sic] since [sic] when do we have a right to decide what she does with her body & how she carries herself?”
Shay-lon, you and I do that every day! We just tiptoe around the issue, generalizing… It’s “fat” or the way “average person” eats, or a lack of exercise “in general”… Carrie Fisher was overweight, and she was because she ate too much and didn’t exercise enough. It’s not rocket science.
Better, since when do we have the right to criticize the fact that she looked like she and Mark Hamill sat down and ate Jabba the Hut after she choked him out in a bikini?” Technically, a whole line of people have exactly that right, starting with the casting manager… the production manager, the producers… Harrison Ford managed to keep his weight in check, no? Speaking of Hamill, just to illustrate how fickle the industry is about looks, after American Graffiti and A New Hope, Hamill was said to be the best actor to come out of his generation. What happened to him? He got in a car wreck and mushed his face. He rarely worked again after that and they had to throw in the abominable snow man into the Empire Strikes Back to work his messed up mug into the story. Still, he wasn’t as pretty so his ability to act didn’t matter as much. That’s the way Hollywood works. Sometimes talent isn’t enough.

Jim,
I feel as though she was being attacked about it, by various people. Maybe in your opinion that is “normal” and should be something that is considered “okay”, that is besides the point. The expectations they have on her is the same expectations they have on other female lead actresses who don’t automatically fit the bill. I am pretty sure with or without the movie she is well off, so it isn’t like “she had to do the movie” – she chose to do the movie because of being supportive of her fans and wanting to do something she used to do, but that doesn’t give the audience and anyone else a right to say “hey, you looked horrible on screen”, personally I could careless what they look like – that isn’t my business. I am more concerned as to whether their acting did well and her case, I thought it was fine.
While you might not agree with the fact she was attacked, many people do agree with this and I for one found it to be kind of fucked up, but then again.. none of us really can say how she felt because we aren’t her. I could careless about her mental issues, she was usually very open about her mental problems and that is hard enough in this world.
All in all I stand by the fact she was attacked, maybe not physically, but emotionally and that is sometimes worse. Harrison Ford is not Carrie Fisher, they are two people with two different lives who made two different choices and two different past. Again, as I have said, who has the right to judge, the people getting paid to, but if they didn’t get paid to do it, their opinions would hardly matter; something like ourselves.
I think I kept everything honest, maybe not the kind of honest you like or prefer but the kind of honest that got my point across.

Oye. Yeah, I’m not going to put the time into a point-to-point analysis. In the end, she’s still dead and that’s unfortunate, because anyone my age loved Princess Leia.
Maybe if she’d taken better care of her health her ticker wouldn’t have quit on her. Just a thought.
