Yes, I did cry in this video and yes I was trying to hold the tears back but something came over me. While the thought of me crying on video is embarrassing and I hope that no one makes jokes at it, I am not ashamed of it because it was how I felt about the situation and because life is serious. This probably won’t happen often where I am shedding tears on camera, but when it does, trust and believe I have a good reason to. I could have cut the part out where I am crying and sobbing, but I am a real person with real emotions and I am not going to hide them from people in order to look “perfect” on screen. Hopefully all of you will understand, if not. oh well.Β

1. There’s nothing wrong with being emotional. It’s real and from the heart and that’s okay.
2. So you don’t have to apologize for having emotions.
Thanks for sharing and being vulnerable; it gives people permission to also be open and honest with how they’re feeling.

Yes,
very true. I think the topic of discussion was just difficult because of how real it is- I wasn’t even expecting to cry and so it caught me off guard.

That’s real. The big question is, going forward, what can you do to make a difference?

You really are very lucky to spend the holidays with people who love and care about you and it’s true not everyone has that which is very sad. It’s okay to cry and let it out. There’s nothing wrong with that. I’m glad you had a good Christmas π

PoojaG ,
Thank you. I appreciate your support and understanding. I suppose it never hits me until the Holidays, specifically Christmas and the fact I was reading a blog from someone who is currently homeless. ugh

Oh wow that is really sad. I guess we never really appreciate what we have until we look around and realize how little other people have. It’s very sad to think of all the people who are homeless or alone or suffering during Christmas and to be honest I get kind of emotional when I read stuff like that too.

Do you get emotional too? Yes, I keep up with blog just so I know she is making it alright. Kind of scares me, because she mentioned that she was trying to scrape 1.50 for some canned food and she used to be like all of us, spending 200 dollars on a watch and what not.. now .. can’t even manage to find a shower some days. I hope I am never in that situation because I am not sure I could survive.

Yeah I get really emotional about stuff like that too. It’s sad how your life can change so fast. Growing up in a country like Kenya really makes you appreciate everything you have because so many people live in such devastating conditions here it’s terrible. I mean especially if you go to the villages or to some of the Northern parts and it really just breaks my heart because honestly people here have so much potential but it just goes to waste.

PoojaG, do you live in a village too? or no? I don’t remember if you mentioned or not. I have had family (come to find out) who have been to Africa many, many times. lol. I guess I was uncool and didn’t get the chance to go.
The Northern parts of the poorer areas of Kenya? Interesting.
Also, Happy New Years!

No my family moved from Thika (which was kind of a village but pretty advanced now) to Nairobi (the capital city) a long time ago (my grandparents moved). But I still see villages when we drive by sometimes and we have visited some incredibly poor villages when we did some charity work and it was very sad to see. Yeah the Northern parts are pretty bad and unfortunately a lot of villages aren’t educated and are fighting against each other. It’s very sad to see the condition they live in.
What parts of Africa have your family members come to?? Have they ever visited Kenya? You should totally come to Kenya probably during December because the weather is great and see what it’s like here! Although take care of mosquitos because the last time I went to Uganda I got Malaria which sucked.
Happy New Year!! π

Ahh, I had not known that you live in the Capital; that is nice. Means more to do? Are there certain villages you cannot go to due to fighting or danger?
I am not sure what parts they have gone to, that is something I will need to ask them when and if I see my aunt/uncle.
Malaria sounds horrible, ugh. Mosquitos are annoying. lol.

Yeah the capital city has more to do and better education and healthcare which is nice but the villages or even the outskirts of Nairobi are very peaceful compared to where I live which I envy. My parents are probably going to move out to a more peaceful area once I leave for university. Yeah some places are incredibly dangerous and need to be avoided. I think these are mainly in the Northern parts. Even in Nairobi certain places are quite dangerous and you really have to take care.
Yeah they probably must have some to East/South Africa because that’s where most of the tourist destinations are.
Yeah Malaria really sucked but Uganda is a very beautiful country apart from all the insects i.e mosquitos. They have like 5-10 different types of bananas which we call “matoki” in Swahili and they make different foods with different types of banana and it’s honestly the best food ever. In general the food there is really amazing.
LikeLiked by 1 person
What do the tourist destinations have that make it so popular? What do your parents think about when it comes to you moving abroad for schooling? are they supportive of that decision?
There are different bananas? lol that is funny, I never even knew there were so many kinds of bananas. Do you speak Swahili where you reside or still English?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Usually most tourists like to see the wildlife and beaches and stuff like that. My parents are not very pleased about me having to leave Kenya but they understand that it’s a good opportunity for me. Yeah there are so many different types of banana’s that are all used differently. We get about 3 in Kenya. Yeah most people here speak both Swahili and English (my family does too) and I also speak Gujarati, Hindi and I’m learning German. Most Indians in Kenya also speak Gujarati/ Hindi/Panjabi.

Holy shit! you speak that many languages?! that is phenomenal! seriously. I used to know French and I hardly can speak spanish anymore, so I only know English fluently.
They will miss having you around, maybe they can follow you to the University and live in your dorm! lmfao!
Shay-lon
P.S that is why I would want to visit, to see the wildlife!!! woot woot!

Yeah I was raised speaking Gujarati, English and Swahili and then I later picked up Hindi and some Panjabi. I learnt French in school too but I’ve kind of forgotten most of it now! Lol!
Yeah I’m sure they’ll miss me but I may come back after getting my degree if I get a good job in Kenya so it’ll be ok. Hahah yeah I told them if you miss me too much just move to America with me and they were just like “no Kenya rules”.
Yeah the wildlife here is just amazing! And there are so many different places you can visit and see with different kinds of animals!

Hey! you learned some French too, very cool indeed! Oh you have thought about coming back after graduating? hmm that is okay, that is okay. That way you are close to family. “No, Kenya Rules” lol that made me laugh a bit π

I would take Tiger to school with me if I lived there. He would be my transportation.

Lol yeah French was ok but my teacher made it kind of boring and I was kind of a bad kid in my high school days and me and that teacher did not get along so I was usually kicked out anyway or I just ditched French most of the time. I kind of regret it now cos I like how French sounds.
Yeah if I miss home a lot I’ll just come back after uni. A lot of people actually do that in Kenya.
Lol yeah we’re very patriotic about Kenya cos it’s home and my family has lived here for more than a century now so that’s cool. Plus the weather here is really amazing and that’s the main thing my parents don’t like about Western countries (they hate the cold).
Lol unfortunately there are no tigers here but lions are always an option π

You don’t have Tigers? Hmm, I didn’t realize this, I guess I am not good with animal demographics like I used to be. I love lions too! π Do you have black panthers or cheetahs?

Lol no one must know that I was formerly a bad girl! But yeah I had a phase where I did some pretty nasty things. But I hated my school and some of my teachers really got on my nerves and I guess once you’re labeled as that “bad kid” all the teachers kind of picks on you and are just expecting you to do something wrong. Yeah I’ve chilled out since then and I wasn’t really a bad person or anything even back then I was just really rebellious and had a horrible temper so I was in trouble like very often.
Lol yeah unfortunately there are no tigers in Kenya. I want to see tigers when I go to India though. Yeah we have panther and cheetahs and leopards and pretty much most animals actually. But we aren’t allowed to go very close to the animals cos they’re wild and not used to humans so you can only be friendly with specific ones that are trained and live in national parks or zoo’s. I have played with some very sweet baby deers though! And I petted a lion and leopard once which was terrifying but fun! π

Darn, lol I thought you would be some jungle book lifestyle, where you can ride on panthers backs and talk to snakes! lmao.
Honestly, I would love to pet a wild cat like that, it would be amazing and very risky and brave! You should have hugged the lion too! lol I love going to zoos here in the US, they are amazing, I have always loved animals growing up, for a while I wanted to be a vet and wanted to be like the crocodile hunter as well, but decisions changed.
You probably wouldn’t believe it, if I told you, but growing up, animal planet and reading animal books was all I ever did, I could tell you about any animal in the kingdom, land or water. It didn’t matter. I KNEW almost everything about all the animals I read on, and I would just spit random facts, hell my family came to me when they wanted to know what kind of spider was walking in our house! lmfao!!!

Oh haha well no one has ridden lions since we were colonised so if you ever want to do that you may have to build a time machine. You can play with most animals here though as long as it’s supervised.
Oh wow I actually wanted to be a vet when I was small too! Like that was my dream till I went to high school and realised I sucked at the sciences. Lol!
I would love to see American animals though like turkeys or eagles. Omg one time a hawk almost carried away one of my cats! And it pulled my hair and I’m pretty sure it took some of my hair with it. The birds here are a little mean and vicious.
Lol my sister hates spiders but I don’t mind them. Animals are fun to play with but not a good idea to study cos it’s so complicated!

I hate spiders too, they literally make me cry when I see one in my home, lol it takes me 10 minutes to think of a plan to kill it and another 10 minutes to be brave enough to kill it and another 10 minutes to actually kill it. LOL. it is a process.
I find it funny that a hawk attacked you, lol you should have gotten a YouTube video of it and it could have made you famous xD
American animals are boring, Lmao!!!

Lol that is a lot to go through to get rid of a spider! When I was small I used to play with spiders because they didn’t really do anything to me.
Lol yeah the hawk pulled my hair really hard and I almost fell over! Yeah I wish I had a camera ready then I would have been a star by now! ππ

Yes, it is a lot to go through, but it is well worth it. LOL. that is a total of what, almost 30-45 minutes in order to kill it! hahahaha! — my cousin used to do the same, play with them. I don’t understand.

I couldn’t finish watching the whole video. We have to be appreciative of what we have. You’re right so many people didn’t have anyone to spend the holidays with. Don’t apologize for crying, tears cleanse the soul, so I’ve been told. 2016 has been a very emotional, rollercoaster year for me. I hope you’re feeling better and I am wishing you the best in everything with everything you’re doing and with everything you have coming up! βΊβ€

Thank you for watching the video, it really tugged at my heart during that part. I almost wanted to shut the video down but knew I had to proceed if I wanted people to understand what I was talking about.
Actually there is a blogger who is homeless, that I follow and she is one of the many reasons I said what I said about holidays and people not having anyone. I literally thought of her circumstances and how positive she is, and told myself.. why.. why am I walking around pissed off or sad when someone has nothing, not a damn thing and still manages a smile. I tell you, it was one of the hardest videos I will ever do.
Thank you so much for the continued support and understanding.
