That is right! I don’t like sweet potatoes, never have and probably never will. Why? because they are gross. I don’t see how people can enjoy them so much, even most of my family love it, except for my two siblings. Another thing is, I see everyone all over social media who is into “eating healthy” and fitness sharing pictures of sweet potato dishes – I am over here like.. seriously.. -_-
Part of me is jealous, because I wish I could stand to eat them, but then part of me is like.. hahahahahahhahaahhaha have your sweet potatoes; I will continue to eat my russet (even if isn’t the “best” choice). Anyways after seeing so many pictures, dishes, recipes dealing with sweet potatoes, I decided I would make a blog post about it (in a good way) and share with you the benefits of adding sweet potatoes in your diet and then maybe you can decide why it is such a popular choice for health experts.
Why, Oh why, The Sweet Potato?
- They are inexpensive
- available all year long in most places
- High in vitamin B6
- Vitamin C
- Vitamin D
- Have Iron and promote a healthy immune system
- Good source of magnesium
- Potassium
- Do not cause blood sugar spikes
- Anti-inflammatory nutrients
- Antioxidant nutrients
- promote healthy skin and hair
- good for stress because of the magnesium
- good source of dietary fiber
- Have said in studies to help prevent cancer – and protect against the effects of aging
Also, Yams and sweet potatoes are two different things that look a lot alike and many people do not know this, YAMS are rarely sold in most stores in the U.S and as said before sweet potatoes are widely available.
So for these reasons, I wish I could eat sweet potatoes and enjoy it, hell I wish I liked YAMS too, but I don’t. Do any of you not like sweet potatoes? do any of you love them? share your thoughts on sweet potatoes in the common section and don’t forget to share this post on social media so people you know can be informed about this lovely food!
Your Fitness blogger,
Shay-lon xxx

I’ve been using sweet potatoes for the last couple of years – using them instead of ordinary potatoes for mash and baked. Partly for variety and partly because they are better for blood sugar.

Oh, how I wish I could do this same thing. They are definitely better for blood sugar.

I eat a lot of things I hated as a child, though I still can’t take beetroot. You never know what might happen. 🙂

Oh, I don’t like beetroot either. I used to not like avocado, but come to find out, I like it now. lol.

I love sweet potatoes! Especially with added sugar and butter! I know it’s not healthy😳

Hahah! no it is fine, I know many people that eat it like that. I don’t think the butter and sugar take away from the benefits , I wouldn’t know though.

OH I love sweet potatoes! My brother and his wife always ask me to bring them for family get togethers. I know you won’t make this now but maybe someday you’ll give it a shot: steam peeled and cubed sweet potatoes until soft. Drain then mash with coconut oil and ginger (I like to keep some frozen then use a microplane to grate a fine powder). Mix it all up with a bit of salt to taste then spread in a baking dish and add crushed gingersnap cookies.

Thank you for sharing your secret recipe. LOL. if my taste buds change anytime soon, I will give it a go
Do you eat your sweet potatoes the same way as you would eat a baked potato? or only the way you stated in your comment?

Oh I love them baked. Sometimes I’ll split them open and let a pat of butter melt over them or coconut oil and a sprinkle of salt. Or cut them in thick wedges, toss with olive oil and chilli powder and some salt and bake in a 400 degree oven. Yummy

Everything about that sounded good, besides the sweet potato part, lol

Are sweet potatoes the only veggie you don’t like? It just seems so wrong… although I can’t eat peppers. Even if I pick them off pizza they still turn my stomach.

You don’t like any kind of peppers? None of the pepper family members? lol. No, I don’t like squash, zuchinni, peas, relish, eggplant (never had it but looks scary), green peppers, raw onions.. the list probably could continue lol.

Bell peppers, poblano peppers, banana peppers. I’m shuddering as I type this. I also do not like raw onions. However I make a killer red pepper jelly with hot peppers that I grow. And ummmm relish? Isn’t that cucumber? ;)>

Oh my! I had some banana peppers last night on my sub, it was very good and very hot indeed ( I love hot food) .. made me want to consider ordering another sub! Good thing I have self control .. lol.
I will sauteed my onions but eating them raw bothers me, doesn’t matter the kind of onion it is. Although I much prefer white onions to red. You like hot food as well? never heard of a jelly that was meant to be hot, normally they come sweet. Relish, no, I don’t think it is a cucumber, lol. I like cucumbers, and pickles I can handle every so often.. by themselves.

OHHHHHH I have gotten so many people hooked on my pepper jelly. It’s hot and sweet and so yummy. You can find it in the grocery store. Definitely worth looking for. A natural with brie or in an omelette with goat cheese. Ya lost me with banana peppers. icky

Do you put on on toast like you would normal jelly? what is the calories? fats? carbs? protein! lmfao

All I can say is that a little bit goes a long way. Ahem. Hows that for a smoke bomb?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Smoke bomb, like it will be that hot, it will cause the toast to warm up on its own with the use of a toaster then the taste will explode in my mouth. I like it , sounds dangerous, somewhat like my arms when I flex them! XD lmfao. jk

Smoke bomb as in I vanish and don’t have to answer anymore because there is sugar in my jelly
