Let’s Talk Lemons.
My mom has been talking me into drinking my water with added lemon juice or a fresh lemon – but it hasn’t worked out well because I don’t particularly love the taste of lemon water. It isn’t that i don’t like lemons, but for some reason my taste buds don’t like lemon in my water (but if forced to, I would drink it). Who else feels this same way?
I suppose it doesn’t matter what I like, because it doesn’t make it any less beneficial, as a matter of fact, a little lemon can go a long way in your drinking water.
- Boost the immune system
- good source of potassium (which helps with depression and anxiety for some)
- Aids in digestion
- said to help the skin as well (blemish free)
- helps with weight loss – aids your metabolism
- Reduces inflammation
- Used as a detox method
- regulate blood sugar
- Relieves heartburn
- Studies have said that it can relieve kidney stones
- liver cleanser
Tell me, do you add lemon water to your daily nutrition?

I love lemons and lemon water. Probably because I drank it all the time a child (my mother is also very enthusiastic about me drinking it).

Lol yes very inspirational! You should start making shirts and hats and plaques with that written on them to sell before some steals your quote 😝

Lemons really are amazing and often get overlooked. If you drink lemon with water and in conjunction with fitness it can replenish your body salts. Which, is great for regulating your fluid balance.

Thank you for the extra tip to the cause. This was great information (I had no idea) , I only knew the basics. I should force myself to drink it more often, I should. I can do it! hahaha

I think I have always liked lemons and limes. I enjoy drinking lemon water. I don’t really give my tastebuds much say in the health realm. They easily betray us. Actually, you can train them to like whatever.

Yes, I have heard of that but I like my taste buds opinion too much 😀 it is helpful in many ways than negative in my opinion. I like lemons in some dishes and don’t like them in others, just like I prefer water without lemon and that is okay but I guess every blue moon I might consider drinking a small bit of lemon water.. who knows.

I’ve always been nervous of the citric acid and potential risks associated to damaging tooth enamel. But if you are careful then it’s fine.

Yes, this is true as well. Something I figured most people would know since it is a fruit and all, and our oral health is very important. I suppose it depends on how much lemon you add or how often you drink it possibly.

I drink lemon water all the time and love it!! Actually, it’s one of the only natural remedies that has actually ever made a difference when I’m sick or feel the flu coming on. I just chug lemon water like crazy (I add a LOT of raw lemon juice to my water), and it almost always does the trick.

Wow! Really? I was just reading how lemon water is especially helpful for us in the fitness world. Someone else was telling me about ginger root added to water as well. I might give that try as well. I will try to suck it up Elizabeth and drink lemon water, lol it will be a hard path to follow, but I can do it! LOL
Do you ever worry about the citric acid bothering out tooth enamel?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yep it’s one of those fabulous natural cure-alls that actually works! (Ok maybe it doesn’t cure all but it sure has amazed me). I’ve heard ginger root is great as well but I’ve never tried it, besides adding the powder in large quantities to my cooked veggies lol). Lemon water does taste terrible at first ’cause there’s no sugar to sweeten it, but I promise you’ll get used to it. What I found is that once my body got used to drinking it, I actually crave it when I especially need it. So don’t worry, you might actually end up loving it if your body decides it needs it 🙂
I do think the citric acid breaks down tooth enamel (especially when you drink the amounts I do), so I just make sure to brush my teeth thoroughly and/or rinse out my mouth with water when I’m done and I’ve never had any real problems with it.

Ah okay! good:) the tooth issue was my biggest worry but I mean, hell we eat things all the time that might hurt our oral care, so oh well. Do you drink your lemon water cold or warm?

No, but with all of these benefits I might have to try it!

Right! You should and let me know what you think? if you notice any differences in your health and day 🙂

I know it’s a good idea, but I don’t . . . I think it’s because you have to cut up the lemon, or buy lemons to begin with and remember to use them up.

Haha! this is a good reason to not implement it. I know some say they buy the lemon juice – instead of the lemons, so maybe both are just as useful 😀 but yes, and I don’t use many lemons in my everyday recipes to have use for them as often but maybe I will buy a lemon a day ! ha 😛

I absolutely love lemon water. I immediately feel a difference internally every time I drink it. I found out it delays my periods though, and makes it very painful. So I usually stop a few days to my period.

Ooo is normal to delay female periods? I did not know this. I already have very bad periods so this might hinder me a little bit .. hm. Thank you for adding this tidbit of information, definitely something to keep in mind and helpful information.

I have no idea if that’s normal. I just know about 2 months in a row my periods were delayed and when it came there was wayyyy more pain than normal. I googled it and a few women said the same happened to them when they took lemon. Some actually went as far as saying they purposely delayed their periods by taking lemon. *shrugs*

Hmm, this is good stuff to know for me especially since I already have horrible cramping during mine as is. I will do what you do and stop taking it a few days before or maybe a week if necessary. Thank you so much for sharing this and looking more into it.

I have hot lemon water in the morning and lemons in my water during the day. The taste doesn’t bother me, especially when the benefits are so good. Keep trying!

Haha, yes, everyone is telling me to keep trying! I might, I might. We shall see. Do you prefer drinking it warm vs cold?
LikeLiked by 1 person
I prefer it when it’s warm so give that a try to start and see where you go from there x

Hm, interesting, alright, I will try it when warm and see if I like it more that way 😀 thank you!

I have a teaspoon of lemon juice in a mug of hot water every morning. Sometimes I add a bit of fresh ginger to it as well, which is really nice. I have also added a teaspoon of honey to the lemon water, They both are nice…but now I am fully into the ginger and lemon kick. 🙂
I knew lemon water was good, I honestly did not realize all of it’s benefits !!! Thanks so much for that. 🙂 x

Lynne, maybe adding honey to my lemon water will help me to get over the taste that I cringe. I don’t mind lemons but for some reason lemon water isn’t my thing but I may give fresh ginger a try as well since you and another blogger recommended it to me. I might be giving lemon water another try at life! haha. I mean, it does have amazing benefits, but I will also watch how much I might consume because of it being citric acid and could possibly bother the enamel as well. You’re welcome, glad this post was useful 😀

I’ve tried this in the past but I thought it actually broke me out? Maybe it was the cleansing element of the whole thing or maybe I just used way too much lemon in relation to water! But have definitely heard and read about the benefits a lot 🙂 maybe will give it another go!

Oh wow! well hey, everyone’s body works differently, and I love when people share their experience because it can offer real life situations. Thank you doing so, because this could be a con as to drinking lemon water.

Living in Brazil, lemons are hard to come by. I do, however, drink lime water every morning first thing, even before eating breakfast. I imagine the benefits are pretty much the same.
Nice to meet you.

Lime water? this is different, but I may look into it, and see what it offers as well. I didn’t realize lemons were harder to come by in your country, this is good input! 😀 thank you for sharing!
