Post Superbowl Workout – No, not cardio today. Sorry, not sorry

Happy Monday FitFam!!!!!

I just want to say BIG CONGRATS TO MY TEAM THE PATRIOTS FOR WINNING THE SUPERBOWL YESTERDAY (I plan on posting a YouTube video on my excitement).

My workout today consisted of leg day and abs – no, no cardio (this was on purpose of course) but thanks to some bloggers, whom I read their latest post about cardio .. have made it so I get nightmares thinking about cardio exercises, and now it will haunt me until I do it.. >.< thanks guys, thanks a lot. Now I may be forced to do cardio tomorrow unless I come up with a good excuse.

Today’s leg day wasn’t the BEST, but wasn’t the WORST. I figured I needed to work on strength gains in my legs more, because the endurance squats didn’t help me to build the strength I needed to lift more, but helped with my ability to continue through the squat workout without stopping midway. I did the deadlifts and squats using about 70% of my 1RM.

I also succeeded in my push up challenge reps from yesterday ( I will post the video) , today is a rest day in the challenge, yay for me! 😀

Workout Session:

  • Stiff-leg deadlift: 3 x 10, 8, 8. 105 lb, 115 lb, 125 lb
  • Smith machine squat: 3 x 10, 8, 8. 105, 115 lb, 125 lb
  • smith machine leg press: 3 x 10. 65 lb, 115 lb, 135 lb
  • Bulgarian Squat: 3 x 10 ea leg. 40 lb
  • DB lunge: 3 x 10, 40 lb

Superset:

  • Vertical crunches: 3 x 10
  • vertical knee to chest crunches: 3 x 10

Superset:

  • Goblet cable squat: 3 x 10, 30 lb, 35 lb, 42.5 lb
  • Barbell squat: 3 x 10, 30 lb

  • Roman sit ups: 3 x 20
  • push ups – 10 reps

Today, I realized my hatred for lunges have grown. I do not like them and I am horrible at them most days. LOL, Maybe not in the eyes of someone else but in my opinion. Here is a secret: I used to suck really really bad at lunges, but now, I just suck badly. Hahaha. half the time, I do them quick as possible to get them done and the other half of the time, I do them half ass to say I did them. Today, I didn’t do either, I just did them and dealt with it, from my face expressions you could tell, I was not a fan of them and that I couldn’t wait to move on to the next exercise. My push ups came easy again! thankfully 🙂 considering once the number of reps increase the more face plants I will do. LOL.

    1. Yes, I used a TRX band in college during my exercise science classes, lol
Glad I am not the only one who doesn’t like doing lunges. I wish my gym had a TRX, but I know you can buy them on Amazon for not too much to take anywhere.
I don’t mind doing skater lunges or side lunges at times.

    1. Nyse,
Oh goodness, lol the burpees.. everyone seems to not like them, I don’t have issues with them, as long as it is only one! LOL — fine, 5. lol. They kick ass for sure.

  1. I hate lunges but I hate squats even more. Yes I said it…I hate squats. No cardio? But whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy? Have you ever tried variations on lunges? I find that having to concentrate makes them easier to do. My favourite is to put my front foot on the round side of a BOSU ball. You work your balance (and core) at the same time.

    1. Yay, someone else who hates lunges like me ! lol but someone who hates squats? you might be the only person I know who hates squats. I won’t lie, some days I do hate squats but then other days I pretend to like them again 🙂 I have tried side lunges, skater lunges, reverse lunges, walking lunges, stationary lunges, jumping lunges (those I don’t mind), and weighted lunges. I think that is the whole list and I know there are so many more our there. I haven’t used a bosu ball since college, but I should look into investing in one, I will check out Amazon to see what they cost me. Someone else told me to try TRX lunges as well, so I may get some resistance bands and TRX bands as well. Lunges are good functional exercises, just I need to work on my core and balance a bit more and strengthen those areas. I don’t have as bad as balance as I used to but .. it still needs work.

    2. I know squats are valuable exercises and I think it all boils down to not wanting to do things that are hard. But I’d rather do deadlifts all day rather than a few squats. I haven’t used trx bands but I’ve been wanting to work them in. I feel that any time you work balance you work core. And we all know how important the core is to everything.

    3. Yes, this is true balance and core go hand in hand. I was doing some single leg deadlifts today and realized my balance has been really good during that exercise, I was impressed.
Deadlifts are too bad, I don’t mind them, they are probably better than squats haha — squats always make me sore! lmao

    4. The deadlifts make my booty sore! But I feel like a rockstar doing them. Squats I find it too easy to pop a knee. Single leg deadlifts are like diagnostics:they’ll tell you where you need work. Love them

    5. Deadlifts make your butt sore? really, I have never come across anyone to say that. They normally always make my hamstrings sore afterwards 🙂 Squats have to be done carefully and with the correct form/technique or you will end up with more issues than knee problems. People use their knees during squats which is why they get injured (they shouldn’t be doing that) if someone does it correctly, given they don’t have prior injures, they should be driving with their heels which avoids having to use the knees.

Single leg deadlifts are a good exercise overall, I feel more sore after those than I would during my regular romanian deadlifts.
