My Gym workout – Dec. 8th

Weights, Workout, Exercise, Fitness

Hello fitfam,

Today was a leg day and it was a leg day focusing on muscular endurance training, so I did low weight and high reps in all the exercises and did day two of my squat challenge.

Warm up:

  • Treadmill: 12 minutes, no incline, 3.6 speed

Workout Session:

  • Leg extension: 4 x 20, 50lb
  • seated calf raise: 4 x 20, 40lb
  • Hip thrusters: 4 x 15, 55lb
  • Cable glute kickbacks: 4 x 20 per leg, 5lb
  • Dumbbell side lunge: 4 x 20, 30lb
  • Dumbbell swings: 4 x 20, 15lb
  • air squats: 55 reps

Overall today’s workout went really well. I really felt those leg extensions, even at a lower weight – the burn came quick. I did the hip thrusters using the leg extension machine. The dumbbell side lunges are no joke a good exercises, would recommend them. The gym I go to does not have kettlebells, so I had to use dumbbells instead and it worked out fine. This was day 2 of the air squats and 55 was starting to hurt at 40 reps.

Please feel free to leave workouts, ideas, questions in the comment section. If you enjoyed this workout, share, follow and reblog. Thanks for reading.

Pop (aka Soda) why it isn’t any good

Coca Cola, Cold Drink, Soft Drink, Coke

I will assume we have all come to terms with the fact that drinking pop (soda) is no good for you. Whether it be ‘dark’ or ‘light’ pop, diet or non diet, caffeine or no caffeine, pop just isn’t any good for you – but we still like it. For many people, it is their downfall in their health, it is something that might drink on a daily basis, or something they have with every meal & for others, they might think by drinking a diet pop or sprite instead of coke, they are much better off, but that starts to not matter if you don’t know how to control your intake of it (moderation). Everyone’s “moderation” will be different, because some people can cut it out as a whole and others will have to learn to cut down the amount consumed. For example if you are someone who drinks it daily and consumes about 5-10 on a daily basis, maybe your “moderation” is drink 2 daily instead of 5-10 or drink 5 per week.. who knows, but still it means cutting down.

Another thing people need to understand is that cutting down pop for someone who loves it, and drinks it often is just as hard as taking a cigarette from a smoker or coffee from an avid coffee drinker, it takes time and discipline and a willingness. So before we go around telling people who drink this to “stop drinking it” or “you shouldn’t be drinking”, we need to remember this isn’t going to be an easy task for them. Typically when i have had past clients be honest and mention they drink pop often, I didn’t mention that it was “bad for them” or “they shouldn’t be drinking it”, because this is something they already knew and I didn’t tell them to “quit drinking pop” or to “give pop up and work on drinking more water”, because again they might not want to stop drinking it (people don’t like being told what to do), instead I changed my perspective and found a way that worked in order for them to see the health benefits from drinking less of it, or shared ideas to help them try different liquids in their diet – this didn’t mean they didn’t continue to drink it, this only meant I gave them options and helped them to see benefits that come from drinking less or none.. but if they chose to keep drinking it, then.. they knew the consequences of their results.

The above information was just a disclosure, so that no one thought of this blog post as “JUST SAY NO” Act against pop, this is not what this is, this is an informative post to bring light on the negatives pop can have on the body and the mind honestly. Also, to add to this, I used to drink pop often, Sprite was my choice of pop ( I don’t really like dark pop) but I can tolerate it, I prefer lighter pop, now I don’t drink pop at all (rarely) .. it wasn’t too difficult for me, but it got harder every so often when I was craving it – but I found something better for me that I like just as well & don’t give thought to pop much at all these days. Now to the good stuff..

Pop – Why it isn’t any good for you

  1. It dehydrates the body, which means you end up more thirsty even after drinking it – which is some of the reason why people will drink more after they have had a glass because it doesn’t quench your thirst.. it just continues to make you more thirsty
  2. High sugar content – this is explanatory, this can lead to diabetes, insulin resistance, and extra weight gain from the sugar becoming fat
  3. Contains caffeine – studies have shown too much caffeine consumption can lead to other health issues
  4. Lack of nutrients
  5. Bad for the teeth – dentist say it can lead to plaque build up and gum disease
  6. Contains high frutose cough syrup- studies have said that it is has been associated with increased risk of heart disease and other health concerns
  7. Obesity- Drinking pop does not mean you will be obese but if you don’t have self control over the amount you drink and live a sedentary lifestyle, it can lead to obesity
  8. Contains phosphoric Acid- This interferes with the body’s ability to absorb calcium, which can lead to osteoporosis, cavities, and bone softening
  9. The artificial sweeteners in diet pop are no better than the real sugars in non diet pop – Many of the artificial sweeteners have proven to do more harm than help – some of them being linked to different health problems.
  10. Mentally- I have noticed the energy you may get from the pop last about maybe a hour.. and then you are back to being “gloomy”, lazy and probably have little momentum (feel sluggish). For those that drink it for energy or to wake up, the sugar will wear off and when it does, consuming more will do the same and it will become a cycle – someone told me they had to switch pop because Mountain Dew no longer gave them the kick they needed since their body was getting used to it. (This wasn’t during a study, this is just a reference to tell how this sugar works)

Please feel to share, comment, like and follow. If you or anyone else you know loves pop, feel free to share what kind you drink, why you drink it and if you have noticed any negative signs from drinking too much of it. Thank you for reading.

10 Cardio Exercises You should do!

Monitor, Heart, Beat, Heart Beat

FitFam,

I have decided to list 5-10 great cardio exercises that anyone can do (depending on your health conditions and fitness level) – but are fun and will get your heart rate up! Now there is much more to this list than what I name off, so don’t get upset if there is one you prefer and it didn’t make my list, doesn’t mean it sucks, leave it in the comments for others to look at. This particular list is a list of cardio exercises are not necessarily based on a “study” but more so based on what I have seen and liked myself – so it is biased but nothing I display is a “bad” exercise if done properly and with expert advice. Some of these exercises are displayed in your more popular fitness magazines and websites, so don’t be shocked if you see one that you have seen before. Hopefully this will broaden some people’s idea of cardio and get you pumped! Oh and some of these exercises don’t involve running!

  1. Jump rope
  2. Burpees
  3. Jump squats – good for strength and cardio
  4. Indoor Rowing machine
  5. Interval training
  6. Mountain climbers – I actually don’t like this exercise, but it is a good one
  7. Jumping lunges
  8. High to low planks
  9. step up jump
  10. Running in place high knees

Oh and doing circuits, those can be made into some really good cardio workouts too!

So, like I have mentioned before this is just a short list of good cardio workouts, there are plenty more that are useful and just as good. I could have listed about 50, but wanted to keep the list short and sweet. In a future post I will list 50 good cardio workouts including what you see in this list , and some that maybe you have yet to hear of. Let me know if there is one on the list that you love or hate!

My Gym Workout – Dec. 7th

Fitness, Gym, Exercise, Fit, Workout

I’m late, I’m late, for a very important date, a date of which with a blogger site.. people will be mad, they may cringe at the sight.. I’m late.

.. Yes, prepare for more random quotes I shall make up. Some motivating, some weird and others very creative indeed. I happen to make that whole thing up as I was typing it, so I hope you all enjoyed it.

One thing is for sure, I am late for writing my blog post, and apologizes, this one is my fault (nothing new), I have been slow on the trigger and more entertained by my text messages. I did not wing today, I was thoroughly prepared and happy with my choice of exercises. I have also decided to take part in a fellow bloggers #Instagram squat challenge, which I thought was very cool indeed as well. It will be very challenging but I am determined to complete it. If you are interested in the challenge she has posted, her Instagram username is: phoenixrise1.

Warm up:

  • Treadmill: 12 minutes, no incline, 3.6 speed

Workout session:

  • Assisted pull-ups: 4 x 15, 15, 10, 10. 40lb
  • Dumbbell single leg deadlift: 4 x 15 per leg. 15lb
  • Dumbbell alternating hammer curl: 4 x 15, 15, 10, 10 per arm, 40lb
  • Bulgarian split squat: 4 x 15, 15, 10, 10. 30lb
  • Renegade row: 4 x 10, 30lb
  • Curtsey lunge: 4 x 15 per leg
  • Air squats: 50 reps
  • Crunch machine: 5 x 10, 70lb

Cool down:

  • Treadmill: 5 minutes, no incline, 2.5 speed

I figured it out that I can do heavier weights for the renegade, and the single leg deadlift, so I will up my weights next time for those two exercises and see what happens. Overall this was a very good workout.

Please feel free to leave your workout in the comment section. If you have enjoyed this workout, please save it, write it down, share, reblog, like, and follow. Thank you.

The Entertainer Blogger Award

entertainer-blogger-award

I was nominated this award by PoojaG, she has an awesome blog, always sweet and nice. Please do take sometime to check out her blog!!!

The rules of the award are :

  1. Write a post  including the award picture
  2. Nominate twelve other bloggers
  3. Nominees should answer the same questions as the ones below
  4. Thank the blogger that nominated you and link their blog

So, here are the questions:-

Question 1:  What do you hope to gain from blogging? I want the opportunity to connect with others in order to motivate, inspire and train them (if needed) in being fit &healthy, I want the opportunity to write for “big wig” magazines – hoping that my blog will catch their attention. I want the opportunity to gain financial stability where I get paid to write and help people on and off screen. I want the exposure, the fame and the fun that comes with it, I want it to help me grow my personal training business when it gets started. All in all, I hope to gain some wonderful friends & warm people’s hearts with my positive vibes and passion to help others feel good about who they are.

Question 2: What genre of film entertains you the most? Horror, and films with depth to them (that tell somewhat a story) .. those are fun.

Question 3: Do you consider yourself a writer, and what inspires you? No, I do not consider myself a writer. I am far from a writer, I am nothing more than a human with hands typing on a keyword, projecting words at a screen in order to communicate – of course, I do write and I have an editor I write for, but to have the title as “writer” is heavy.. some big shoes to fill.. I am still new and learning, when I become a writer, everyone will have read my story. I get inspired by learning something new, or gaining knowledge about something that intrigues me enough to write about it or research it.

Question 4: Why did you choose your particular WordPress username? WordPress chose my destiny, I left it in their hands.

Question 5: What is your favourite book, and why does it speak to you? Reading is for the cool kids, and well.. I used to be one.

Question 6: What is your favourite song, and why does it speak to you? Ooo don’t make me answer this question, this could haunt me.. lol. I would say either “Born to die” – Lana Del Rey, “Young and beautiful” – Lana Del Rey or “Gods and Monsters” – Lana Del Rey , ooo and maybe “Hello” – Adele. I love Lana Del Rey, and her music, her music speaks to me because it puts me in this trance where everything just comes to life, I usually cry or have flashbacks or makes me feel sexy singing it. Adele’s song “Hello”.. obviously with my breakup – it deemed necessary to love this song, plus she is awesome.

Question 7: What is your favourite photograph and why does it speak to you? The one’s I am not part of. LOL

My nominees are:
